What you need for this tutorial

  • Liquid Lipstick (You can choose your preferred brand)
  • Lip brush

Additional (optional)

  • Concealer
  • Concealer brush

The concealer and concealer brush may be used if you want to neaten up the outside of your lips after applying liquid lipstick.

Step 1: Prepare your lips (canvass)

There are different ways to prepare your lips, as you may learn from various make-up artists. Others put lip primers, but what we will teach you is a simple step. Since you are applying liquid lipstick, making sure that your lips are dry and prepared is a must.

Step 2: Prepare Your Materials – Use a Lip Brush

While other artists may recommend using a lot of materials for this process, all you need are your liquid lipstick and a lip brush. Applying lipstick right from the lip wand of the product is possible, in the same way, that it is also possible to put some liquid lipstick at the back of our hand and pick up from there using your lip brush.

However, if you want to apply it professionally, a lip brush would do the trick. To start, all you have to do is to pick some lipstick from the lip wand using your lip brush.

Step 3: Start with the Upper Lip

Now, you can start with the upper lip, creating the Cupid’s bow. Others may recommend working on the lower lip first, but since the upper lip takes more time to complete because of the Cupid’s bow, finishing it first would be a better idea. In this way, you can work on the lower lip with ease later on.

Step 4: Draw the Cupid’s Bow

Start with a smile to prepare your lips, and start drawing the Cupid’s bow. Smiling also helps you locate where the lip line is. After starting with the bow, you can create a ‘cross,' or an ‘X’ mark to make sure that both sides will be evenly applied. Use a lip brush for this process, as it will give you better precision when applying. If you use your lip wand, you may end up applying everything messily.

Step 5: Outline Your Upper Lips

Pop your top lip up, and place the lip brush directly into the corner of your mouth. Afterward, flick it into the top of the lip. Outline by applying the top line to the corner of your mouth. When doing so, drag the lipstick from the outer corners to your Cupid’s bow using a firm stroke.

Step 6: Fill In Lipstick

After completing the outline for your upper lip, fill in lipstick using your lip wand. This is the brush that goes along with the lipstick product bottle. Make sure that the lipstick is applied evenly.

Step 7: Prepare Your Bottom Lip

Now let’s work on your bottom lip. Use your lip wand to fill the center of the bottom lip first. In this way, you are creating a guide from the corners to the middle. Later on, when you no longer need the guide, you can start learning other techniques, such as applying lipstick directly by following the bottom curve of your bottom lip using your wand, beginning with the middle part, working your way out to the outer corners of your mouth.

Step 8: Fill in Lipstick

Place the lip brush from the corner going to the center of your bottom lip. After completing on one side, proceed with the other. Thicken up the application of the liquid lipstick to make sure that it is applied symmetrically. Don’t worry about perfecting the corners, as you will eventually learn it later on.

Step 9: Finish it Up!

In order to make sure that the lipstick’s real color stands out after application, use the lip wand and apply lipstick one more time over your lips.

Step 10: Neaten Up Everything

As a final touch to the ensemble, you can sharpen out the lines by using a concealer and a concealer brush. This will make sure that the outer part is cleaned up, especially if you are not contented with the output of what you started.

There you go! By following the step-by-step guide above, you are now on your way into applying liquid lipstick like a pro! Before becoming good at something, there is always that one place where you start. This is it!
